Richard Curci, Middle School Principal discusses the benefits he has experienced and the benefits that students have gained since the Transcendental Meditation technique was introduced as part of the Quiet Time program.
Question: What have you seen as the benefits for you and the students from Transcendental Meditation?
Answer: Meditation is a technique for everyone to settle their mind and for me personally to gain more energy. If it weren’t for meditation during Quiet Time it would be extremely challenging to be the principal of the middle school.
Question: Which is better, meditation or medication?
Answer: We do not want the students to use drugs. We want it to be natural. We want the students to become stronger within. We do not want them on these pharmaceuticals, we want them meditating for themselves.
Question: How has practicing Transcendental Meditation improved the lives of the students?
Answer: Since meditation has come to Everett we have had less violence, improved test scores, students are more focused. During the Quiet Time period, when the students meditate, you can feel the silence in the school.
