Dr. Kathy Matara’s journey into consciousness development began at age 17 with Transcendental Meditation. The practice inspired her global mission to protect the planet, especially its oceans and marine life.
Dr. Matara holds an Honorary PhD in Development of Consciousness, a Bachelor of Science from Maharishi European Research University (MERU), and a Master’s in Higher Education and Administration from Maharishi International University (MIU). In 1974, she became a certified TM Teacher.
Dr. Matara is a leading advocate for safe underwater communication networks, as Project Founder and CEO of Safe Smart Ocean. Her current focus is safeguarding marine species and ecosystems from the emerging underwater acoustic internet by advancing fibre optic and other non-invasive alternatives: https://www.safesmartocean.org/
In November 2025, she represented the U.S. at the International Conference in Berlin, where she led a workshop on the environmental and ecological risks of underwater acoustic signalling. This workshop brought together experts in bioacoustics and marine biology, who have authored over 200 peer-reviewed research studies on the disruptive effects of underwater noise on whales, dolphins, porpoises, and other marine life that communicate through sound. At the conference, her group of experts received approval to develop an International Standard for “Bio-Friendly” underwater communications.
Join us on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 to hear the story of a meditating advocate for the marine life within our vast oceans, which cover 70% of the globe.
