ABOUT DR. NORMAN ROSENTHAL
Norman Rosenthal, M.D., is a world-renowned psychiatrist, researcher, and best-selling author. He was the first to describe Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or winter depression, and pioneered the use of light therapy for its treatment. For 20 years, he served as a senior researcher at the National Institutes of Mental Health, and he is currently a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Rosenthal was born and raised in South Africa. As a senior researcher at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, he led the team that first described SAD and developed light therapy that has helped millions of people all over the world overcome this debilitating condition.
Dr. Rosenthal has written more than 300 scholarly articles and authored or co-authored 12 books, including, The Emotional Revolution, Winter Blues, The Gift of Adversity, and Poetry RX, and his newly released book, Defeating SAD. He has also written two books about the importance of Transcendental Meditation for mental health and personal development: Transcendence: Healing and Transformation through Transcendental Meditation and Super Mind: How to Boost Performance and Live a Richer and Happier Life through Transcendental Meditation.
Dr. Rosenthal has an active psychiatric practice, and also provides executive and professional coaching.
