Richard Beall, PhD, served as a teacher, coach, and middle and high school principal of Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa. In addition to helping establish the school in its early years, he launched interscholastic sports and supported the development of many extracurricular programs. He talks about how he learned the TM® technique in 1970 and later became head of the school. He explains how Consciousness-Based Education® (CBE) is implemented and the impact that the TM technique has had on his own life and the lives of the school’s students, faculty, and staff. He also shares some of his favorite moments at the school and reflects on its importance and significance in our world today.
ABOUT RICHARD BEALL, PHD
Dr. Richard Beall’s 40-year educational career began in 1981 when he helped establish Maharishi School, a day and boarding school for preschool through 12th-grade. Under Dr. Beall’s leadership, the school gained accreditation with the Independent Schools Association of the Central States and the Iowa Department of Education.
After earning his doctorate in curriculum development and evaluation in 1996, Dr. Beall moved to North Carolina, where he founded the Consciousness-Based Education Association to support CBE programs across the country. In 2004, he founded the Carolina International School, an award-winning public charter school outside Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2008, Dr. Beall became head of Maharishi School and served in that capacity for 17 years, restoring its boarding program and guiding it through many transformative phases, while sustaining its Consciousness-Based® foundational approach. This year, Dr. Beall is serving as Head Emeritus of the school, mentoring his successor, Brett Potash, and developing new Consciousness-Based curricula and programs.
