ABOUT JOHN COWHIG
John Cowhig began his lifelong adventure with TM in Vancouver, Canada, in 1967, after a classic baby boomer trajectory from altar boy, to party boy, to flower child, to learning the TM technique. In 1970, he was made a TM teacher by Maharishi in his remote ashram on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India.
From 1974 to 1977, Mr. Cowhig served as Maharishi’s personal secretary and worked with him everywhere he went. He then represented Maharishi and the TM organization in countless roles, traveling to over 100 countries in the next 15 years.
In the late 70s, he oversaw the Latin American TM organization with Ron Decter and organized the first Latin American TM Teacher Training Course (TTC). He also taught the TM-Sidhi® program, led TM TTCs around the world, and co-managed KSCI-TV in Los Angeles. Mr. Cowhig contributed to many of Maharishi’s visionary projects, including one to help developing countries to become food self-sufficient by cultivating organic food on their unused arable land.
Recently he helped to edit and write the glossary for the ground-breaking book Consciousness Is All There Is: How Understanding and Experiencing Consciousness Will Transform Your Life (Hay House, August 2024) by Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D., M.A.R.R., the MIT- and Harvard-trained neuroscientist and head of the international TM organizations.
In July, Mr. Cowhig will publish a book of poetry, and later, an autobiography that includes the 17 years he spent with Maharishi. He lives on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, in a Maharishi Vastu house overlooking the ocean and Vancouver, where he was born.
