James Meredith, pianist, composer, voice/piano teacher, coach, and conductor, reflects on his rich and varied career in music, from classical to contemporary. In addition, he discusses his unique and groundbreaking role with the Sonos Handbell Ensemble, which helped elevate handbells into the realm of mainstream concert performance. He also highlights his inspiring work with underserved youth, guiding them to success through music education.
Mr. Meredith also shares personal stories about discovering the TM technique during his time in the army, and how it has fueled his energy and creativity throughout life.
ABOUT JAMES MEREDITH
James Meredith is one of San Francisco Bay Area’s most versatile musicians, best known as the conductor of the acclaimed Sonos Handbell Ensemble, whose recordings have received national recognition and airplay. He has collaborated with renowned artists, including Frederica von Stade, Elly Ameling, and Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, performing across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Mr. Meredith holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Tulane University and has worked with prestigious institutions such as the Oakland Symphony Chorus, Festival Opera, and San Jose State University. He has been on the faculty of the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra for 17 years.
A pioneer in elevating handbell artistry, Mr. Meredith has led Sonos in collaborations with the San Francisco Symphony, the Kronos Quartet, and major festivals nationwide. He is also a published composer and founder of Meredith Music Press, specializing in advanced handbell music.
