ABOUT LT. COL. (RET.) ANTHONY SPINOSA
Colonel Spinosa is an expert in exercise and fitness. During his 18 years as Director of the Health Fitness Team at National Defense University (NDU), in Washington, D.C., he was responsible for enhancing the executive health and performance of the senior military leaders who were chosen from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps for NDU’s special one-year program.
Colonel Spinosa organized a broad spectrum of interventions that promote healthy lifestyle habits, reduce overall health risks, and maximize the performance of each year’s contingent of military leaders. The intent is to help them use the full range of their capacities to thrive in the most difficult circumstances and emerge from stressful periods stronger, healthier, and eager to face the challenges of command.
As director, Colonel Spinosa developed a program of total fitness of body, mind, and spirit for all students, staff, and faculty at the National Defense University. After exploring various approaches to meditation, he chose the Transcendental Meditation technique to be included in NDU’s Total Fitness Program.
Prior to his work at NDU, he spent 20 years on active duty in the U.S. Army, holding various staff and command positions worldwide, including Action Officer in the Deputy Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Operation Center.
Colonel Spinosa received his Master of Science in Exercise Science from George Mason University.
