In a prelude to the global group meditations on Sunday, December 21, the UN officially inaugurated the celebration of World Meditation Day at its NYC headquarters. The event was attended on Friday, December 19, by 500 diplomats, UN staff, and representatives of many international meditation groups.
John Hagelin, PhD, renowned quantum physicist, international president of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace, and president emeritus and distinguished professor of physics at Maharishi International University, gave a keynote talk titled “World Peace through Inner Peace: An Evidence-Based Approach,” in which he presented a meditation-centered approach to reducing crime, social conflict, and war.
